Penn State is updating its identity data management process to give students, faculty, and staff more identity options and make it easier for those affiliated with the University to manage their personal information in one, easy-to-use location via the University’s Account Management portal at accounts.psu.edu.

This change will support forthcoming updates to University Policy AD84, which will empower students, faculty, and staff to better manage their chosen identity at Penn State.

What is happening?

In partnership with Penn State IT and the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), the Office of Information Security is implementing a new model for identity data management. The Accounts Management portal at accounts.psu.edu is being enhanced to provide self-service functionality so people can manage their own identity and personal contact information in a single location. Similarly, the Digital Identity Management Center (DIMC) will provide a single interface for administrative staff to manage the same data on behalf of the individuals they support.

New integrations using SailPoint IdentityIQ (IIQ) will be used to consistently send identity data to LionPATH and Workday. The new single source identity management platform will be integral in managing identities throughout the life cycle of the individual’s Penn State account. As a result, students, faculty, staff, and technical service employees will be able to change or update personal identity information with the University via the Accounts Management portal. Any personal information changed in the portal will then be reflected in other Penn State systems such as LionPATH and Workday. Additionally, biographical details and contact information are being normalized to reconcile any discrepancies between the current identity management system, LionPATH, and Workday.

Previously, Penn State Account holders would have to update, oftentimes duplicate, information across multiple enterprise systems.

When will this happen?

Identity information that is added or changed within the Accounts Management portal will automatically sync and update with the Central Person Registry (CPR), LionPATH, and Workday the week of June 21. The soft launch will begin on June 28, at which point you will be able to go into the Account Management portal to look at the interface changes and update your personal information.

The benefits of these changes

This effort provides a single dashboard for the Penn State community to manage their own identity data and personal contact information and establishes a single system of record for this information. This will allow for consistent identity data across services and improve data integrity. The effort will also help eliminate operational inefficiencies.

Additionally, the new platform will allow for the expanded use of gender identity and personal pronouns.
