Wallpaper/Screensaver downloads have led to Penn State device compromises.
The Office of Information Security has detected several users whose computers were compromised when they downloaded wallpapers/screensavers from the internet. The users were logged in as regular users. Nothing seemed odd on the users’ end – until OIS called with bad news.
Please exercise extreme caution about downloading wallpapers and/or screensavers from the internet. Your own pictures of family or pets make lovely backgrounds, and avoid risks associated with internet downloads.
