Arts & Architecture Community,

Over the past few days, the tragic events of war and violence between Hamas and Israel have intensified. Taking place many miles away, these horrific events, the loss of thousands of Israeli and Palestinian lives, and the overall destruction may cause members of our college to struggle with the implications. My request to you is to show understanding, compassion, and support for students, faculty, and staff members.

Please be mindful of our students and colleagues. It is likely some students may have difficulty focusing in class or completing assignments. I ask you to afford them reasonable support to be excused from class or to make other accommodations to allow them to attend to their mental and emotional states. I encourage department heads, directors, and other leaders to be attentive to employees who may benefit from flexible temporary work arrangements in the coming days.

A message from President Bendapudi was published yesterday afternoon about the evolving war, and Provost Schwartz followed that message by email later yesterday evening. Please note the resources to support staff, faculty, and students that appear in their messages.

Should you need assistance or support that is not otherwise offered in the University messages, you may contact me at aadean@psu.edu.

In peace and solidarity,
