Timely updates for all employees regarding upcoming Adobe CC re-licensing and the transition to MS Teams for phone calling.

Late-December ’23: Adobe Creative Cloud Access to Change

Access to Adobe Creative Cloud will change in late December to provide no-cost software licenses only to those who require the Creative Cloud applications for their course of study, teaching, or job functions. That includes many faculty, staff, and students in the College of Arts and Architecture. All licenses will be suspended Dec. 17, 2023, making Adobe accounts and software inaccessible, BUT on Dec. 18, 2023, you will be able to request a new license from Penn State Software.

After existing accounts are suspended, those who reorder and obtain a new Adobe Creative Cloud license will still be able to access all Creative Cloud files previously stored on the Adobe Cloud. NO DATA WILL BE LOST. Those who do not reorder and obtain a new license will not be able to access any files previously stored on the Adobe Cloud, and will not be able to use any of the Adobe applications. Everyone, regardless of whether you reorder a new license, should back up Creative Cloud files to an alternate location before Dec. 17.

We will remind you regularly about the coming change, and as additional information becomes available. The University will issue a series of announcements as well. For now, put Dec. 18 on your calendar and prepare to activate Adobe Creative Cloud that day if you use it for work purposes. Please note the IT Service Desk will be open during the winter break for support.

Spring ’24: Transition to Microsoft Teams Phone and Calling

Penn State is currently transitioning to Microsoft Teams Phone and Microsoft Teams-to-Teams Calling in an effort to improve operational efficiencies as well as streamline the functionality of enterprise IT services.

The Telephony Transformation project team will assist with transitioning staff and faculty from existing Cisco telephony systems to Teams Phone and Teams-to-Teams Calling in the spring 2024 semester.

While Teams Phone enables users to make and receive external calls, this option requires the maintenance of a billable phone number. On the other hand, Teams-to-Teams Calling is internal to the University and built into the Teams app.

The switch to Microsoft Teams telephony may not fit everyone’s needs or specific use cases. While timelines are tentative, the Telephony Transformation project team will engage with units and proactively work with them to schedule transitions. Faculty and staff members interested in transitioning to either Teams Phone or Teams-to-Teams Calling should contact their local IT team.

Visit the Telephony Transformation Project website for training resources and project updates.
