Starting July 1st the University switched to virtual permits that will use license plates for recognition.  Make sure your vehicles are updated in the system.

Here are the instructions to accept your new permit, plus additional information.  If you follow them exactly you shouldn’t have any problems.

If you experience any issues with accepting your new permit:

Updated virtual parking permit acceptance process for employees who have been unable to complete it

To: Faculty/staff permit holders

Transportation Services is aware of an issue affecting the ability of some faculty/staff parking permit holders to accept a new 2024-2025 virtual parking permit. We are working with our parking technology partner to identify the cause of this issue and resolve it as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have developed the following plan to assist employees with completing the permit acceptance process by July 1 for those who need parking on campus immediately after their current permit expires June 30.

  • Employees who previously encountered an issue with the virtual permit acceptance process are asked to reattempt this process. We have implemented a system change that should allow more transactions to be successfully completed. See the original email below for full instructions.
  • Any employees that still receive an error message when attempting to accept a new virtual permit should complete our Virtual Parking Permit Acceptance Form.
    • Note: This form should ONLY be completed by employees who are unable to complete the virtual permit acceptance process through the online parking portal.
  • Upon receiving a form submission, Transportation Services will manually complete the permit assignment process for these employees and email them confirmation that their new permit has been successfully assigned.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to complete the new permit assignment process as quickly as possible.

If there are any questions, please email parking@psu.edu or call 814-865-1436.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERMIT HOLDERS MOVING TO A NEW PARKING LOCATION

Any employees switching to a new parking facility with their new permit must continue parking in their current facility through the end of June. Parking in the new facility will be available beginning Monday, July 1 when the new virtual permit takes effect.

PERMIT DATES AND RETURN PROCESS

Your 2024–2025 virtual parking permit will be valid from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025, after which it will be automatically renewed for another year. A reminder email will be sent prior to the renewal date.

If at any time you wish to return your virtual permit, you must complete the Parking Permit Return Request online form.

A permit return confirmation email will be sent to you, and permit fee payroll deduction will stop following any that are already scheduled.

If you wish to register for a permit again later, you will need to contact your department parking chair to have a new permit allocated to you and complete the online permit acceptance process.

PERMIT ACCEPTANCE DEADLINES

Please note the following deadlines related to accepting your new virtual parking permit:

  • Monday, July 1—if the new virtual parking permit has not been accepted by this date, permit holders will not have access to on-campus parking through their permit until they do.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 3—If the new virtual parking permit has not been accepted by this date, department parking chairs may make those permits available to other employees in their unit.

If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact your department parking chair (Gwen Miller). If you do not know who that is, please email parking@psu.edu.

PHYSICAL PERMIT RECYCLING

After successful acceptance of your new virtual parking permit, please contact your department parking chair to arrange for collection of your current physical parking permit for recycling.
