Sarah K. Rich

College Awards Committee:

I am pleased to nominate Dr. Sarah K. Rich, Director of the Center for Virtual/Materials Studies and Associate Professor of Art History for the Barbara O. Korner Award for Faculty Outstanding Service. Having worked in the department for many years, I knew Sarah was always on the go, to a crit review in SoVA or to give a guest lecture for an art history colleague, and she always had time for the undergraduate or graduate students for a hallway conversation. Over the last three years as staff in the Center for Virtual/Materials Studies, I have seen up-close the amount of time Sarah gives to the department, college, students and the greater Penn State and State College community. Through the Center’s numerous workshops for classes in Art History, Architecture, English and History, to name a few, to public demonstrations at the Pasto Museum or Arboretum, Sarah has demonstrated her commitment to serving the community. During all this Sarah is also always writing an article, a review or contributing an essay to a gallery show or exhibition. Sarah’s time is also full of service on numerous department and college committees. From the department’s graduate committee to the College Faculty Council, Sarah serves with the best interest of the department and college as a priority. Her contributions to service are far reaching; not only do they improve the academic experience for both students and colleagues but they also enhance the community at large.

I strongly believe Sarah Rich is a deserving candidate for the Barbara O. Korner Award for Faculty Outstanding Service.
